V.A. Zhukovsky and Austerlitz («Song of a Bard on the Grave of Slavs-Conquerers» in Its Historical Context)

The article deals with Zhukovsky’s poem analyzed in the context of notions of Austerlitz battle that existed in Russian society in 1806. The defeat near Austerlitz passed by Russian officials off as almost a victory caused a real enthusiasm in the public. Alexander I’s return to active foreign policy was met with approval. Before start of a new military campaign of 1806–1807 Zhukovsky wrote a propaganda poem which reflected both the tsar’s intentions in his foreign policy and public opinion.

From the History Archives of the Russian Army During of 1812 Year

In recent years points concerned with destiny of Russian military archives of a Napoleon war poque draw explorers’ attention more and more often. This is the matter of the fact that archive sources are known quite well and were put into use in science a long time ago. Now we can confidently say that archives of military units and formations starting with battalions and up to headquarters of corpses are lost, except for the archives of the number of Guards’ regiments and of some of the reserve battalions.

The Caucasian Seat of the Russo-Turkish War in 1877–1878: Some Aspekts of the Memoir Heritage

The article explores some aspects of the memoir heritage concerning the Russo-Turkish War in 1877–1878 on the Caucasian seat of war. The author analyses the memoirs of G.K. Gradovskii, F. A. Schtokvich, N.P. Betling, M.M. Pozemkovskii, rather seldom mentioned in research literature. The memoirs reveal miscalculations and faults of the Russian headquarters, heroism of the Russian soldier, the War in terms of its ordinary participants: junior officers, privates, doctors, nurses, etc.

Predestination and Real Application of Militia in Patriotic War of 1812 in Russia

Russian peoples were able takes two tasks in war of 1812: 1) to wake up hate against the conqerors and to keep citizens in obedience to the authorites; 2) to carry out wars service as well as regular army. The supreme power was afraid of armed peasants and was not interested to do militia striking army. Municipal Voting and the Saratov City Duma’s Structure in 1871–1892

The following article examines functioning of Saratov’s city electoral system in 1871–1892. On the base of many sources (including archive sources) author systematized data about number of voters and their voting, described the organization and particulars of election. An important part of the study is analysis of Saratov city duma’s social structure and enumerating of people who have been elected for many times. The author’s conclusions are connecting with objective reasons of reform of city electoral system in 1892.

Recruitment in Saratov Region in Patriotic War 1812–1814

Article for the first time shows nearly unceasing process recruitment in Saratov region and will reconstruct the situation, in which they proceed. Provided in her material allows to draw a conclusion about that that in condition of the serfdom to speak of ascent of the patriotism and volunteer mass movement amongst local population, as this was done earlier, it is impossible.

Unknown Battle at Eylau 26 January 1807

The article deals with little-known events of Russian-Prussian-French war of 1806-1807 – the battle at Eylau 26 January 1807. The events of the battle can be divided into 6 stages: the first stage is the repulse of Murat’s attack at the forward position. The second stage is the repulse of Murat’s attack at the main position, the third stage is the repulse of Soult and Augereau’s flank attacks. The fourth stage is Bagration’s retreat through Eylau and the participation of Barclay’s detachment in the battle.

The Beginnings of Saratov Province in 1781 and the Significance of this Event for the Province Principal Town

Based on the published information the article analyses the course of festive celebrations devoted to the beginnings of Saratov province. The celebration was held according to the traditions of state festivities existing since Peter the Great’s time. For the new province centre it was the sign of approaching the capitals, and for the province territory it meant drawing near the heart of the empire. The transformation of Saratov into the province centre was the starting point of the changes in its cultural and public environment, appearance and city planning.
