Marriage Alliances as a political tool in the Late Middle Ages (using the example of the fate of Marguerite of Angouleme)

The article is devoted to the problem of the marriage policy of the French royal house in the first quarter of the 16th century. The author identifies the political and dynastic reasons for the conclusion of princely marriages, the motives for choosing a marriage strategy.

Feminine and Effeminate: Perception of gender norms in 12th-century Anglo-Norman Historical Writing

The article examines how Anglo-Norman chroniclers of the first half of the 12th century wrote about condemned male and female behavior. The subject of study is the works of the most significant historians of the era – William of Malmesbury, John of Worcester, Henry of Huntingdon and Orderic Vitalis.

Ethics and political pragmatics in the First Philippic of Cicero against Mark Antony

The article analyzes the First Philippic against Mark Antony as a source that reveals both certain biographical circumstances in the life of Cicero, and his ideas and ideals related to the behavior of a politician. An analysis of the First Philippic as a political action, similar to the one that Cicero performed at the beginning of his career in his speech “Pro Roscio Amerino”, allows us to consider his relationship with Mark Antony in dynamics and to find out how the Philippics correlate with Cicero‘s ideas about politics accredited.

О Кирилле без Мефодия: новое исследование, посвящённое святому и судьбе его мощей

Рецензия посвящена монографии П. Иванича, в которой повествуется о жизни Константина Философа, а также рассказывается история его останков. Автору книги удалось рассказать о жизни святого и дискуссионных моментах его биографии. Рецензент отметил спорные моменты жизнеописания святого, на которые автор книги не обратил внимание, и сделал некоторые выводы о месте данной монографии в объёмной кирилло-мефодиевской библиографии.

Хендрик де Ман против Карла Каутского – к истории идеологиче-ских дискуссий в германской социал-демократии в середине 1920-х гг.

На основе архивных материалов и опубликованных документов в статье рассматривается полемика между Генриком де Маном и Карлом Каутский по проблеме психологии социализма в 1926-1927 гг. Показано, что данный идеологический диспут был связан с общей тенденцией в германской и международной социал-демократии на отход от марксизма в сторону идейного плюрализма.

Преступность в Мюнстере в XVII в.

В статье на основе анализа сохранившихся материалов судебно-следственных дел рассматривается состояние преступности в Мюнстере XVII в. Автор анализирует структуру преступности в зависимости от степени распространенности деяний в судебной практике, а также исследует социально-профессиональный состав преступников.

Holidays and Everyday Life of «the Great Mogul» through the Eyes of the First English Travellers (late XVI – early XVII Centurie)

This article analyse the portrayal of Eastern ruler as ‘another’ culture by English travellers. The endeavour was to show what were early modern English perceptions of a way of life of the Emperor Jahangir. During the first period of English commercial presence in India, the figuration of a culture was represented by its ruler. This practice homogenized and simplified a culture, making it more easily knowable and thus inferior. In the English travel writing of East, a ruler quickly becomes the focus of the civilized/barbaric binary.
