The article deals with little-known events of Russian-Prussian-French war of 1806-1807 – the battle at Eylau 26 January 1807. The events of the battle can be divided into 6 stages: the first stage is the repulse of Murat’s attack at the forward position. The second stage is the repulse of Murat’s attack at the main position, the third stage is the repulse of Soult and Augereau’s flank attacks. The fourth stage is Bagration’s retreat through Eylau and the participation of Barclay’s detachment in the battle.

Based on the published information the article analyses the course of festive celebrations devoted to the beginnings of Saratov province. The celebration was held according to the traditions of state festivities existing since Peter the Great’s time. For the new province centre it was the sign of approaching the capitals, and for the province territory it meant drawing near the heart of the empire. The transformation of Saratov into the province centre was the starting point of the changes in its cultural and public environment, appearance and city planning.

In the article author describes major peculiarities of development of Historical Department of Saratov State University from 1917 until the nowadays. During this period faculty and its teachers lived through the grate scientific ascensions, professional success as well as drastic tragedies which was not only harmful for their academic careers, but also sometimes lead to loss of their lives in Stalin’s prison-camps.
