The article reviews the written sources of two large archives of the Chelyabinsk region, reflecting the activities of Orthodox parishes of large industrial settlements of the mining and processing Southern Urals during the years of revolutionary upheavals and the formation of Soviet power. The composition, features of the content, and information saturation of documents are revealed.

The process of formation and development of entrepreneurship affected all spheres of economic and socio-cultural sphere of the Russian Empire in the second half of the 19th – early 20th centuries, which contributed to the formation of a new layer of business community, actively involved in the activities of local government and the first Russian parliament. In the present article an attempt to reconstruct the biography of one of the prominent entrepreneurs of Samara province M. D.

Deacon Skopin authored the first written work containing information on Saratov’s history. When published, it was referred to as a diary because it occasionally contains information from the author’s life. However, Skopin’s compilation is more accurately described as a chronicle, evident from his selection of facts, use of specific sources, and narrative style. Skopin omitted significant events from his life in the narrative. He did not document his experiences during the capture of Saratov by Pugachev.

The article presents for the first time the biography of the Saratov voivode Prince Ivan Mikhailovich Boryatinsky, as well as brief information about his ancestors. Prince I. M. Boryatinsky began his service at the court of Tsar Mikhail Romanov in the late 1630s. As a tenant, and then a Moscow nobleman, he was the voivode of Dankov. Under Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich, he continued his service with the rank of stolnik, was a voivode in Vyazma, participated in the wars against Poland and Sweden, and suppressed the uprising of Stepan Razin.

The article examines the organization of the process of accounting, training and retraining of national personnel in the Lower Volga region during the period of the first five-year plan, when the success of economic, economic and political campaigns carried out in the country was largely determined by the intensification of efforts in the field of training personnel for the party and state apparatus.

The authors of the article, based on archival material, characterize and analyze the measures of the Soviet government in relation to the church and believers in the 1917–1920s. The article examines events related to the confiscation of churches from believers, the seizure of church valuables from religious buildings in the Saratov Volga region under the pretext of helping the hungry.

This article explores a little-studied subject of the civil war in the Astrakhan region. The purpose of the research was to study the combat operations of the 11th Army compounds, which made up the defense of the Volga River delta in the fall of 1919. The Volga River delta defense area, which included the western (Yashkul and Kizlyar directions) and eastern (Dzhambay direction) battle areas, was created on August 24, 1919.

In the article, when researching the events related to the riot of prisoners in Tsaritsyn prison in June 1904, various aspects of the stay of political prisoners in prisons of the Russian Empire are comprehensively considered, with an emphasis on the study of tactics and methods of their confrontation with the prison administration, which they articulated as a struggle for their rights and dignity, considering it as a continuation of the revolutionary struggle with tsarism.
