Soviet Historiography of the Medieval Lithuanian Past

The article deals with the process of organization and development of the study of the history of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the Soviet Union. The author considers the fate of pre-revolutionary historians, experts in Lithuanian history, who were forced to either emigrate or change the field of research. The article presents the analysis of the first works of Soviet scholars concerning the Lithuanian Middle Ages. It also examines the contribution of Vladimir I. Picheta and Vladimir T. Pashuto to the organization of Soviet Lithuanistics.

Migrants to the Post-Deportation Territories of the Volga Region, North Caucasus and Crimea in the 1940s: Ethnic Appearance and Social Portrait

The article analyzes the ethnic appearance and social portrait of immigrants to the post-deportation territories of the Volga region, the North Caucasus and the Crimea in the 1940s. It is proved that mostly Russians and Ukrainians moved to the settlements that were deserted after deportation. The conclusion is made about the successful adaptation of the majority of immigrants to new living conditions.

The Image of the Ally and the Practice of Interaction with Representatives of the Union Administrations in the Daily Life of SMAG Employees in 1945–1949

The article examines how during the occupation of Germany after World War II, employees of the Soviet military administration interacted with former allies in the anti-Hitler coalition. Based on memories of the employees, various images of allies were identified. The author comes to the inference that the practices of interaction between Soviet employees and representatives of the allied administrations depended on the logic of the Cold war development.

Saratov – the City of Labor Valour

In the article, the editorial Board of the journal refers to a significant event in the life of the region of recent times – the awarding of the honorary title of «City of Labor Valour» to Saratov Saratov. The reasons for making such a decision by the President of the Russian Federation are considered. It shows the contribution of Saratov as one of the largest military-industrial centers of the country in ensuring victory in the Great Patriotic War and the most important facts of the labor feat of its residents.

On the Problem of Development of Source Base on History in Russia in the Middle of the 19th Century

The article is concerned with the government policy in the field of publication of scientific origins connected with activities of Russian Historical association in Moscow University. The government activity in scientific sphere was connected with ideology. Ministry of enlightenment tried to prohibit publication of ‘harmful’ books. The author concludes that government interference into scientific affairs could not be unlimited. Russian university scientists protested against administrative influence into development of science and publication of historical sources.

Special Aspects of Organizing Celebrations in St. Petersburg (Petrograd) and Moscow in 1894–1924: Space, Time, Ideology

The article is devoted to revealing the ways of organizing the metropolitan celebrations in 1894–1924. The author focuses on the city’s metropolitan area, which was the ‘stage’ for preparing public celebrations, first by the autocratic monarchy, then by the Provisional government, and finally by the Soviet government. Based on organizational documentation, the article shows the transformation of the influence on the choice of the triumph vector from centralization to decentralization and vice versa.

Phenomenon of Bolshevism as it is Perceived by Russian Emigration

The author considers the emigrant experience of understanding the Soviet regime that was born under the influence of Russian empire collapse and radical political transformations in 1917. Based on different sources, dynamic of Russian natives’ public moods throughout 1920 (the one that was affected by European life, inter-emigrant political struggle and Bolshevistic state-building) is analyzed.

V. F. Totomianz – Historian, Theorist and Propagandist of Russian Cooperation

The contribution to the history and theory of the cooperative movement by the outstanding Russian scientist V. F. Totomianz, author of numerous works, encyclopedic essays on the history and theory of international and Russian cooperation. The practical participation of the Totomianz in the work of cooperative congresses, which determined the direction of development of Russian cooperation, is analyzed. Particular attention is paid to teaching, research and advocacy in Russia and in exile.

Revacuation of Residents of the Pskov Region (1944–1948)

The article discusses the process of returning of the inhabitants of the Pskov region to their native places after their liberation from the Nazi invaders, evacuated in 1941 to the eastern regions of the country. Digital data on the number of evacuated and re-evacuated, examples of state aid to the latter are presented, the difficulties of re-evacuation and the demographic consequences of the war for one of the indigenous regions of Russia are revealed.

The Soviet State and Religious Organizations in the 70s XX Century (Based on the Materials of the Ryazan Region)

The author of the publication analyzes the religious policy of the Soviet state in the 70s of the twentieth century. The main stages of the evolution of the religious policy of the state in the field of lawmaking, as well as the features of its implementation in relation to religious organizations, are analyzed. Particular attention is paid to the process of relations between the Council for Religious Affairs under the Government of the USSR and the Ryazan authorized Council with specific communities of believers of different faiths.
