Эмиграция несовершеннолетних британцев в Канаду: причины переселения из Великобритании

Аннотация: 

На материале источников изучаются обстоятельства эмиграции детей из Великобритании в XIX–ХХ вв. Доказывается, что переселение было связано с пауперизацией горожан в условиях индустриализации. В Канаде несовершеннолетние могли быть усыновлены или работать на фермах, прислугой, получая содержание и заработную плату. Обязательным условием было обучение детей в школах. Детская эмиграция позволяла восполнить дефицит рабочей силы в Канаде, помочь в освоении британской периферии, укрепить связи метрополии и заокеанских владений. Эмиграция являлась также депортацией избыточного населения и несовершеннолетних преступников. Отсутствие должного надзора привело к жестокому обращению с детьми и эксплуатации. Формулируется вывод, согласно которому большинство британских несовершеннолетних мигрантов адаптировались в Канаде, получили возможность самореализоваться.
