Theatre and Political Life in England of the Restoration Period (A. Ben «The Roundheads, or The Good Old Cause»)

The article investigates the place of drama in the political life of England of the Stuart Restoration period. Analyzing the play by A. Ben The Roundheads, or The Good Old Cause it evaluates ideas that affected theatre audience of the stated above period. 

Private Collecting in England in Second Half XVII Century as the Form of Historical Memory

In article the initial stage of formation of private museums, motives of collecting, principles of selection of exhibits, ways of placing of collections is considered. Difference of an English private collecting from the continental is analyzed.

The Treayment of British History in the Works of Historian E. Pasquier

The paper deals with specifity of a representation of British history by French humanist E. Pasquier. The author attempts to present the special attitude of French historian towards English nation and to find out the ways in forming the image of traditional enemy due to analysis of English and French history’s facts during the Great Migrations, and poque of medieval struggle between England and France. Pasquier devotes the intent attention to Religious confrontation during the Reformation and to the tragic fate of Mary Stuart.

The Urban Space of London at the End of the XVI Century in the Perception of a Contemporary (based on Thomas Platter’s «Travels in England»)

The article examines the issues connected with a foreign contemporary’s perception of the urban space of London at the end of the XVI century basing on the analysis of “Travels in England” by Thomas Platter, a Swiss humanist. A particular attention is focused on clearing out the traveler’s views on the significance of the city, its size and planning, main elements and landmarks.

Justices of Peace and the Council of the North in the Sunset of Tudor Epoch

This paper is dedicated to the relations between justices of peace and the Council of the North. On the materials of the conflict between the Yorkshire justices of peace and the Council of the North the author tries to trace features of selfrepresentation of Tudor institutions of the state.

Women’s Social Nets of Influence: Noble Women’s Relationship in England in the First Half of XVI Century

This article is devoted to the phenomenon of so called “women’s social nets of influence”, which is connected with “women’s power”. On the basis of lady Lisle’s letters the author tried to study the informal influence of an English aristocratic woman in the XVI century and show that the most effective methods were private correspondence, presenting gifts and giving alternative favours.

Land Tenure in English Monastic Town at the Beginning of XVI Century (Based on the «Rental of Faversham 1552–1533»)

The article examines the phenomenon of urban land tenure in a small English medieval town, based on the material of the Rental of 1532/33. The different aspects are being analyzed: its structure, rent, holders and tenants.

How Can English King Become the Sovereign of Flanders? (diplomatic struggle for the county in 2nd half of XIV сentury)

Article deals with the struggle for the County of Flanders between England and France in the second half of the XIV century. It concerns with the changes in their tactic: England and France stopped the warfare for a short period of time and used the means of diplomacy to gain Flanders instead. Members of the Plantagenet (Edmund Langley) and the Valois (Philip the Bold duke of Burgundy) dynasties in their matrimonial policy tried to seek the hand of the heiress of Flanders – Marguerite of Males.

Gender Behavior of the English Nobility by G. Chaucer (Based on «The Legend of the Good Women»)

The article is devoted to the problem for studying a perception of gender behavior in the noble society by Geoffrey Chaucer, who was the prominent English poet of the XIV century. The author studies sexes’ interrelations in the aristocratic society through Chaucer’s coloured descriptions and estimations of the main characters in the poem, who were the famous heroes (both women and men) of the ancient mythology, also including their marriage behavior.
