The article examines the impact of the agrarian reform of P. A. Stolypin on the development of agricultural cooperation in Russia in the conditions of market relations. Without pretending in one article to give answers to all the main questions of assessing the impact of the reform on agricultural cooperation, let us dwell on some factors that either were not taken into account by the authors or remain misunderstood, which diminishes the significance of the reform.

In the article, the attitude of political parties of Russia to the cooperative movement at a stage of its mass development at the beginning of the XX century is analyzed. In the center of the author’s attention is the party of revolutionary socialists and cooperative reformists who were mostly interested in the cooperation and, to a lesser extent, social democrats, cadets and other parties.

Исследуются организационные и идеологические вопросы зарождения кооперативного движения в российской деревне в 60–70-е годы XIX века. Наибольшее внимание в статье уделяется либеральной кооперативной программе петербургского кооперативного кружка А. И. Васильчикова и созданного им Комитета о сельских ссудосберегательных и промышленных товариществах.

Исследуется культурно-просветительская деятельность поволжских кооперативных организаций и ее влияние на повышение самодеятельности российского крестьянства в начале XX века. Наибольшее внимание в статье уделяется созданию народных домов, кооперативной пропаганде и агитации, борьбе с пьянством, развитию народного образования, кооперативной печати, организации библиотечного дела.
