World War I and Russia (on Some Lessons of Century-old Events)

Analyzing many events and phenomena that occurred in the leading countries of the world, and, first of all, in Russia, before, in the course of, and after World War I, the author raises and explores a number of problems of that time which are still urgent today and connected with international and domestic security of Russia. Key words: World War I, Russia, imperial nationalism, ambitions of political elite, international relations, overthrow of monarchy, war lessons, consequences of the Versailles Treaty.

Peace treaties and the Problem of International security: the Concept of n. V. Charykov

The article analyzes the views and diplomatic practices of the Russian statesman and scholar N. V. Charykov aimed at solving the problem of creating a system of international security. The formation of Charykov’s views and their development is traced. The most important aspect of his reasoning was consideration of the evolution of the status of peace treaties from ‘eternal’ to ‘relative’ as an important condition for excluding the military way of solving international problems.

Use of Resources of the Caspian Sea through the Prism of Kazakhstan Interest in the 1990s and Early 2000s

The article explores the development of transport and logistics corridors of the Caspian region through the prism of Kazakhstan’s national interests and geopolitical competition between the leading actors. The author also analyzes the foreign policy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, pointing to the fact that the country managed to maintain a balanced course and to be balanced with all players in the region.

What does Canada Need Sanctions for? Cruicial Factors of Canadian Foreign Policy Towards Russia

The relationship between Canada and Russia has had a long history. Canada and Russia have a lot of things in common such as the size of territory, the federal system of government, joint interest in the Arctic region. But in spite of cooperation prospects the relationship between two countries has been frozen due to the sanctions imposed on Russia by Canada. On the whole the topic concerning sanctions imposed on Russia is widely discussed and raises many disputes about the real nature of the sanctions and the aims the countries pursue.

China’s Attempts to Form a Military Alliance with the Kalmyk Khanate in the Early XVIII Century

The article is devoted to the relevant topic connected with the coverage of the policy of Imperial Russia in its marginal South-Eastern territories. The author introduces new documents from the archive of foreign policy of the Russian Empire and the National archive of the Republic of Kalmykia. The paper analyzes external and internal factors, special historical conditions and prerequisites for relations between the Kalmyk khanate and the countries of Central Asia.
