Soviet armed formations in the fight against the insurgency in the territory of the Volga German region (March – April 1921)

The article examines one of the episodes of the struggle of Soviet armed formations against the peasant insurgency during the end of the Civil War. We are talking about the suppression of an uprising in the territory of the Volga Germans in March – April 1921.

Participation of the Military Commission under the Federation of Foreign RCP(b) Groups in the organization of international military formations during the Civil War in Russia (late 1919 – early 1920)

The article examines the issues of centralized organization of international military formations during the Civil War on the side of Soviet Russia. Based on archival and previously published documents, the main stages of activity of the Military Commission under the Federation of Foreign Groups of the RCP(b) are studied. Special attention is paid to the work of its member A. Hoffmann in Siberia, where the existing situation required a special approach.

Training of military personnel for the Red Army in Volsk during the Civil War (1918–1922)

The article examines the history of military educational institutions evacuated to the city of Volsk during the Civil War. The role of the Volsky machine gun courses and the Kronstadt diving school in the training of commanders for the Red Army and the Red Army is explored. The contribution of Volsky cadets in the defeat of Popov’s detachments in the Saratov Volga region and their participation in the struggle for the establishment of Soviet power in Transcaucasia and Central Asia is studied.

Q. Metellus Scipio. Touches to the biography of the most noble of the Pompeians

The article is devoted to the activities of Q. Caecilius Metellus Pius Scipio Nasica, one of the most noble Romans of the late Republic, who played a significant role in the events of the civil war of 49–45 B. C. The aspect of biography connected with testamentary adoption, the legal force of which is disputed in historiography, is analysed separately. Further the political career of Metellus Scipio is considered, in particular, the positions held and rapprochement with Gn. Pompey Magnus.

Ethics and political pragmatics in the First Philippic of Cicero against Mark Antony

The article analyzes the First Philippic against Mark Antony as a source that reveals both certain biographical circumstances in the life of Cicero, and his ideas and ideals related to the behavior of a politician. An analysis of the First Philippic as a political action, similar to the one that Cicero performed at the beginning of his career in his speech “Pro Roscio Amerino”, allows us to consider his relationship with Mark Antony in dynamics and to find out how the Philippics correlate with Cicero‘s ideas about politics accredited.

Статья посвящёна деятельности Кв. Цецилия Метелла Пия Сципиона Назики, одного из самых знатных римлян времен поздней республики, сыгравшего значимую роль в событиях гражданской войны 49–45 гг. до н.э. Отдельно проанализирован аспект биографии, связанный с усыновлением по завещанию, юридическая сила которого вызывает споры в историографии. Далее рассматривается политическая карьера Метелла Сципиона, в частности, занимаемые должности и сближение с Гн. Помпеем Магном. В гражданской войне Метелл Сципион занял место лидера помпеянской коалиции после смерти Помпея.

В статье рассматривается первая филиппика против Марка Антония. Данная речь выступает в качестве источника, который раскрывает как определенные биографические обстоятельства в жизни Цицерона, так и его представления и идеалы, связанные с поведением политика.

Budyonny Versus Babel: Political Aspects of Controversy

The paper deals with the political background of S.M. Budenny’s essay The Babism of Babel. Based on archival documents it establishes the fact of major political campaign against A.K. Voronsky, the Chief Editor of the magazine Krasnaya Nov being prepared in the autumn 1924. That campaign was only a part of the wider campaign aimed against L.D. Trotsky, the member of Political Bureau. K. Ye. Voroshilov, the closest Stalin’s supporter in his struggle for power, initiated Budenny’s essay as well as the number of yet unpublished works against Babel’s Red Cavalry. S.N.

Charles VI – rex inutilis? (on the issue of the crisis of royal power in France at the beginning of the 15th century)

This article is devoted to the study of the features of the crisis of royal power in France at the beginning of the 15th century. He was provoked by the mental illness of King Charles VI, since in France there was no practice of transferring power in the event of the incapacity of the king to his sons. The situation was complicated by the fact that the heirs had not yet reached the age of majority. This circumstance caused a split among the relatives into two groups: supporters and opponents of the removal of the king from the throne.

The research of the All-Russian Local Council 1917–1918 and regional (district) Councils of the Russian Church in 1918–1920 in the modern Russian historiography

The author of the paper analyses modern scientific works in which the All-Russian Local Council 1917–1918 is examined. Moreover, the historiography of the regional (district) councils that took place in the Russian Church during the Local Council and the Civil war (All-Ukranian in Kyiv, Siberian in Tomsk, South-Eastern in Stavropol and also the attempt to convene the Council in the Far East), is researched. The author also talks about the key book series and publishing projects that have been accomplished during the last two decades.
