The “service town” of Yuriev-Polsky at the end of the XVI – the first half of the XVII century

For the first time, the article examines the noble corporation of Yuriev-Polsky (the socalled “service town”) for almost a century. The main source was the tithes of 1608, thanks to which it was possible to establish which of the Yurievites took part in the Battle of Bolkhovo on April 30 – May 1, 1608. It was found out which events of the XVI–XVII centuries were attended by the service people listed in this list, as well as their ancestors and descendants, what awards they received for their service and how their career growth took place.

Ivan Fedorovich Leontiev – voivode and royal hunter at the court of Mikhail Romanov

The article presents for the first time the biography of Ivan Fedorovich Leontiev, who was the father of one of the governors of Saratov. Brief information about his ancestors is provided. I. F. Leontiev began his service back in the Time of Troubles, as a representative of the Kashirsky “military city”, fought as part of the army of Prince M. V. Skopin-Shuisky. At the court of Tsar Mikhail Romanov, I. F. Leontiev served as a solicitor, a steward and a royal hunter. At the beginning of the Smolensk War, he was a voivode in Yelets.

The initial people of Saratov – Grigory Fedorovich Elizarov: Unknown pages of biography

The article presents for the first time the biography of Saratov voivode Grigory Fedorovich Elizarov, as well as brief information about his ancestors, the Murom nobles. G. F. Elizarov began his service at the court of Tsar Ivan the Terrible in the late 1570s. Under tsars Fyodor Ivanovich and Boris Godunov, he served for a long time as an elected nobleman in Murom, and in this rank was appointed to Saratov. Having become a Moscow nobleman under False Dmitry I, G. F. Elizarov in 1606 led the opposition to Tsar Vasily Shuisky in the Murom district.

The personalities of the Time of Troubles: Andrey Fyodorovich Palitsin

The author of this article attracts readers’ attention to a life of one of the little-known figures of the Time of Troubles who was in the epicenter of events related to the struggle of the new government of Michael Romanov against the Swedish and Polish interventionists. This personality is Andrey Fyodorovich Palitsin. The tangled chronology of events concluding the period of Troubles in 1613–1614 is described in detail.

John Merick at the Talks in Ladoga, 1616

The article by Y.N. Rabinovich is dedicated to that period in the Time of Troubles in the Russian North which hadn’t been studied in detail by other historians – the talks in Ladoga, followed by the making of the Stolbov agreement. The article covers in detail the development of the talks on the background of quickly changing military and political situation, the main event of which was a march of Charles Gullenalm for Pskov.

Porhov on the Last Stage of the Time of Troubles (1615–1618)

The article by Y.N. Rabinovich is dedicated to that period in the Time of Troubles in the Russian North which hadn’t been studied in detail by other historians. The article regards the destiny of one of the small towns of Russia, which was involved into the flood of events, related to the struggle of Pskov against Novgorod and the Swedish interventionists. The tangled chronology of the Times of Troubles in the district of Porkhov is studied thoroughly.

Personalities of the Time of Troubles: Feodor Timofeevich Chernovo-Obolensky

In the center of attention of the article is the life of one of the little-known figures of the Time of Troubles, who was in the center of events, related to the formation of the Novgorod-Swedish political union, and the negotiations in Yaroslavl between the leaders of the Nizhny Novgorod’s militia and Novgorod’s citizens. The author considers the following life of this person in detail, his joining the government of Michael Romanov, his post of voevoda of Saratov, taking part in the construction of a new fortress in Astrakhan.

Governor of Saratov Vasily Vasilyevich Neledinsky (1655–1657)

The article for the first time presents a detailed biography of the governor of Saratov, Vasily Vasilyevich Neledinsky. This serviceman from the fatherland in his youth became a tenant at the court of Mikhail Romanov, and after 20 years he was transferred to the Moscow nobles. He received his first voivodship appointment in the Ket prison in Siberia, then participated in the suppression ofthe uprising in Novgorod and Pskov, and served as governor in Rylsk.

Saratov voevoda Vladimir Annichkov (1607–1608)

This article is devoted to the life of one of the little-known figures of the time of the Trouble who was in the center of events in the middle and low regions of the Volga. The author regards the following destiny of this person, his turn to the side of Michael Romanov’s government, his occupation as a voevoda of Ufa and taking part in the defense of Moskow during the Polish attack in 1618.

Personalities of The Time of Troubles: Semeon Gavrilovich Korobyin

In article unknown pages of history of struggle between Russia, Poland and Sweden in the Time of Troubles are considered. For the first time voivode and diplomat Semeon Gavrilovich Korobyin’s detailed biography is presented. He participated in the revolt of Bolotnikov, and then has come over to the side of Vasily Shuisky, battled against Lzhedmitrij II, released Moscow from Poles in 1611–1612.
