Establishment of people’s control in Soviet Russia: Social and political practice

The article examines the activities of the RSFSR (Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic) authorities in the search for the optimal model of organization of control in the Soviet-type society in the early 1920s. The methods and techniques directly or indirectly related to the involvement of workers in the work of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Inspectorate and the construction of the whole system of functioning of this control agency are analyzed on the material of archival sources.

Extraordinary Authorities in the Soviet State System

The article describes the extraordinary authorities as a significant element of the Soviet State system in the first decades of its existence. It studies historical, structural and doctrinal grounds of its phenomenon, the activity of extraordinary bodies during the Civil war and the Great Patriotic War. 

Workers’ and Peasants’ Inspectorate in the Saratov governorate: Social and political practice (1920s)

Using the example of the Saratov governorate, the activity of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Inspectorate bodies aimed at finding the optimal model of control organization in a Soviet-type society is investigated. Techniques and methods directly or indirectly related to the involvement of workers in this work are analyzed on the material of archival sources. It is shown to what extent this practice corresponded to the course of the party and the government to attract citizens to the governance of the state.

The beginning of the XXth century as the critical moment in the history of the Ural Cossacks: the positing of the problem

The article tells about the role of the Ural Cossacks before and during  the revolution of the 1917 and the civil war in Russia. The author points out the key issues, with may help to solve the problem of finding the reasons of the mutual hostility between the Ural Cossacks and the Soviet authority

Статья посвящена анализу предпосылок, основных движущих сил, итогов и последствий создания  Горской Автономной советской социалистической республики в 1921 г. В статье указано, что данное государственное образование было первым опытом советского варианта горского интегризма. Данная идея была популярна как у прокоммунистических, так и антибольшевистских националистических сил. Тем самым, созданием Горской АССР Москва стремилась перехватить пропагандистские козыри у своих все еще влиятельных оппонентов в кругах горской интеллигенции.

The Beginning of Sovkhozes Formation in the Lower Volga Region (1917–1924): оn the Materials of Saratov and Tsaritsyn Provinces

The article, based on the archival materials, reveals previously unknown facts about the former landowners’ manors of Saratov and Tsaritsyn provinces in 1917–1924. The Soviet government’s policy, in which the lands of the former landowners were transformed into the Soviet model farms – sovkhozes is analyzed. The true state of these agrarian structures is shown, as well as reduction of acreage and livestock population is noted.

The Rebel Movement in Balashov Uyezd of Saratov Gubernia During the Years of the Civil War on the Pages of Local Newspapers

The rebel movement during the years of the Civil War is one of the topical and interesting themes though scantily studied. In the light of new methodological approaches and news sources introduced in the scientific sphere there have appeared new directions of studying this problem. The paper is an attempt to consider the way the rebels are presented on the pages of local Soviet newspapers using Balashov uyezd of Saratov gubernia as an example.

Anti-religious Campaign in the Saratov Volga Region: on the Example of the Fight Against Orthodoxy (the End of the 1920s – the Beginning of the 1940s)

The author of the article, based on archival materials, examines the anti-religious campaign against the Russian Orthodox Church and the Orthodox on the territory of the Saratov Volga region in the late 1920s – early 1940s. The anti-religious campaign was carried out in the form of repressions against worshipers and believers, the seizure of temples and houses of worship, anti-religious agitation and propaganda, and other anti-religious events.

The Formation of the Cultural and Educational Environment During the Years of the Civil War in Saratov Gubernia (Based on the Materials of Balashov District)

Having come to power, the Bolsheviks along with socio-economic, political, state and legal transformations began cultural and educational changes. The paper attempts to consider the formation of Soviet culture and education in the Russian province using the example and materials of one of the uyezds of Saratov gubernia. The author comes to the conclusion that the undertakings of the uyezd authorities in this sphere of public life were not well thought out and organized.

Confessional diversity of the Saratov Volga region of the 1930s

Based on the population census and archival materials, the article examines the confessional diversity of the Saratov Volga region in the late 1920s – early 1940s. Orthodoxy prevailed in this territory, however, a characteristic feature of regional life has always been polyconfessionalism, due to historical and geopolitical factors. In the article, the author characterizes the confessional space of the Saratov Volga region and gives a quantitative ratio of various confessions.
