The article examines the views of historians of the late XIX and early XX centuries on the democratization of the British electoral system through three parliamentary reforms in 1832, 1867 and 1884. It is concluded that these reforms were considered by representatives of the “Russian historical school” in the context of the general political development of the country, without deep analysis. It is revealed that historians paid themost attention to the first parliamentary reform of 1832, which was attributed a revolutionary significance, while the subsequent reforms were considered more fragmentary. It is stated that, in general, researchers highly appreciated all three parliamentary reforms, seeing them as steps that brought the Great Britain closer to a system of representative democracy. However, opinions were divided regarding the reform of 1884–1885: some considered it to be the introduction of the principle of universal suffrage, while others considered it to be a continuation of earlier reforms.
