From the History Archives of the Russian Army During of 1812 Year
In recent years points concerned with destiny of Russian military archives of a Napoleon war poque draw explorers’ attention more and more often. This is the matter of the fact that archive sources are known quite well and were put into use in science a long time ago. Now we can confidently say that archives of military units and formations starting with battalions and up to headquarters of corpses are lost, except for the archives of the number of Guards’ regiments and of some of the reserve battalions. A larger part of archives of headquarters of separate armies, such as The 1st, The 2nd and The 3rd Western armies, Dunaiskaya army, United army and other military formations have been collected into personal fund of Field-Marshal M.B. Barklay de Tolly. A part of the documents of headquarters mentioned above was found among the materials of Military Registration archive. This was concerned with the collecting of historic military documents required for researches of military historians. Nowadays it is necessary to study a process of forming of military archives of the 1812 (eighteen and twelve); poque and as a second step, to make up a file-by-file catalogue of preserved documents, using modern electronic facilities.
