Work G.I. Chernyshevsky over Drawing up of «The ChurchHistorical and Statistical Description of the Saratov Diocese» (1850–1856)

Drawing up in the middle of XIX in history-statistical descriptions of dioceses across all Russia under the Synod project was the important stage in development of regional history and study of local lore. On the basis of archival materials resulted in article it is possible to track a technique of work of archpriest G.I. Chernyshevskii over drawing up of statistical research on stories of the Saratov diocese.

Anti-Semitic rhetoric of Hieromonk Iliodor (Trufanov) as a reflection of the crisis of the Russian Orthodox Church at the beginning of the XX century

The article analyzes the anti-Semitic rhetoric of hieromonk Iliodor (Trufanov) as one of the most scandalous Clerical figures of the Russian Empire in the early XX century. The process of politicization of the Russian Orthodox Church for legitimizing power and serving the national ideology in the context of the Synodal crisis is reviewed. Many clergymen were the spiritual leaders of legal monarchical organizations and thus supported their national policies. The Jewish issue became a marker of the crisis of the Church.

At Sources of System of Vocational Training of Clergy of the Saratov Diocese: N. G. Skopin’s Activity and G. I. Chernyshevsky

Article is devoted a creation problem in Saratov parish and district spiritual schools. On the basis of archival materials difficulties of the first years of formation of system of vocational training of clergy in the beginning of XIX century Materials of archival documents which are published for the first time reveal, allow to show merits of known Saratov educators N. G. Skopin and G. I.

The Manuscript Heritage by the Bishop of Saratov and Tsaritsin Eparchy Jacob (Vecherkov) in the Russian Archives

The article gives the review of the manuscript heritage by the bishop of the Saratov and Tsaritsin eparchy Jacob (Vecherkov) which are kept in some Russian central and regional archives. The criticism of his scientific works and letters is undertaken. The future of investigations of his heritage, church, social and scientific activities is demonstrated. 

The Relationship Between the Soviet State and the Russian Orthodox Church in the Initial Period of the Great Patriotic War (on the Materials of the Saratov Volga Region)

The article reveals the relationship between the Soviet state and the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) in the initial period of World War II on the territory of the Saratov Volga region. The author explores the rapid change in state policy towards the Russian Orthodox Church: from openly hostile to benevolent by the end of 1942. On the analysis of concrete facts, the author identifies the most important reasons for such a transformation. Among them, the author also highlights the mass opening of churches in the occupied territory.
