American concepts of European integration served as a tool for consolidating Western Europe in the rivalry between the USSR and the West. Arranging the balance of power in Europe and perceptions of European order were at the heart of the US posture.

The article examines the consistent evolution of the UN and US sanctions policy towards North Korea. Key aspects of their approaches are highlighted. They are analyzed and compared, similarities and differences in approaches, goals and methods are identified. The results of these policies are examined, and a conclusion is made about the achievement of the stated goals.
