Culture Genesis in the Lower Volga Region during the Late Bronze Age

Substantiation is provided for a model of culture genesis in the Lower Volga Region during the Late Bronze Age (LBA). Three phases corresponding to the succeeding archaeological cultures are recognized in the LBA of the region. The first phase (LBA 1) – the Pokrovsk culture, the second one (LBA 2) – the timber-grave culture, the third one (LBA 3) – the Khvalynsk culture of beaded pottery. At the change of phases, monuments of mixed types occur, with combined elements of the preceding and of the subsequent archaeological cultures.

Complex of Ceramic Stamps from a Well under Oven 9 of Chersonesos’ Potteries

The article examines the complex of 35 ceramic stamps found in the well under the pottery kiln. Previously it was assumed that the filling of the well and the beginning of the ceramic industry in Chersonesos are synchronous. However, the author came to the conclusion that these squeezes have no relation to the workshop, and the well was filled either at the end of the 60s, or in early 50s of the 4th century BC, i.e. long before the appearance on this place of Chersonesos’ "Ceramics".

Magistrate Kλειτοσ place in the stamping system of the ceramic tare of Thasos

The article clarifies the chronology of amphora stamps of the magistrate Κλεῖτος, who was in charge of ceramic production on the Thasos. Previously it was thought that this official belongs to the «late» Thasos magistrates and is dated within 30‑20s of the IV century BC. Meanwhile, the collection of archaeological complexes, given in this paper demonstrates that Κλεῖτος belongs to the «early» magistrates and should be dated no later than the 50s of the IV century BC.

some Early Classical Assemblages from Chersonesos (north-Eastern District)

The analysis of the ceramic assemblages revealed in the North-Eastern district of Chersonesos in 1982 is presented in the article. They are a few rocky cavities of artificial origin and overlying cultural layer. The material is represented by both imported products and local (the Black Sea region) reminiscences of imported samples. Undoubtedly, these findings are interesting for the study of the early ceramic collection of the site and the economic life of its population at the initial stage of the settlement.
