Private Libraries in Russia: A.S. Norov’ Library

Private book collections – is an integral part of the cultural environment of the Russian educated society of the first half of the XIX century. The library of an outstanding state and political figure, a scholar, an ardent bibliophile A.S. Norov is a book treasury. In the article the process of the collecting his two libraries is considered. The article also considers the manuscripts and books of those libraries, discloses the reasons induced the owner of these magnificent libraries to sell them. It is noted that A.S. Pushkin used A.S.

N. G. Chernyshevsky’s survey reviews on historical and geographical works of A. S. Norov

A wide range of diverse works represents the scientific, journalistic and literary heritage of N. G. Chernyshevsky. Reviews and surveys of historical works occupy a prominent place among them. The paper attempts to analyse two such surveys on the historical studies of the Minister of Public Education A. S. Norov. The author of the paper concludes that N. G. Chernyshevsky thoroughly reviewed his scientific publications showing a deep knowledge of the issues presented there. N. G. Chernyshevsky’s analytical reviews can be considered as some addition to the problems of A.
