The relevance of scientific research is due to the fact that the digitalization of the economy today, as well as in the Soviet period, is the key to a country’s competitiveness at the international level. The analysis of the historical experience of production automation in the USSR allowed us to assess the potential, features, and vulnerabilities of this process, and to draw historical parallels with the present day.
