The article examines the history of military educational institutions evacuated to the city of Volsk during the Civil War. The role of the Volsky machine gun courses and the Kronstadt diving school in the training of commanders for the Red Army and the Red Army is explored. The contribution of Volsky cadets in the defeat of Popov’s detachments in the Saratov Volga region and their participation in the struggle for the establishment of Soviet power in Transcaucasia and Central Asia is studied.

The article gives detailed information of military education in Russia since the 18th century. The author presents the development of military education, the way it suited to different circumstances and the influence of the latter on the process of Russian officers’ professional upbringing. A special attention is given to the commanders of the Internal Troops training. The goals and the tasks of education depending on the political circumstances, the ways they have been solved, are discussed.
