The Role of Testimony’s Texts in the Forming of Scenarios of Ritual Processes in Russian Empire in XIX Century

The ritual processes in Russia were the official reaction on ideological and religious crises in Empire. The scenarios of these processes indicated the negative image of «alien». Those «aliens» could be the Jews, sectarians or pagans, all distinguished from the system of official religious ideology.The testimonies adapted general scenario to the concrete process.

The process of formation and development of entrepreneurship affected all spheres of economic and socio-cultural sphere of the Russian Empire in the second half of the 19th – early 20th centuries, which contributed to the formation of a new layer of business community, actively involved in the activities of local government and the first Russian parliament. In the present article an attempt to reconstruct the biography of one of the prominent entrepreneurs of Samara province M. D.

Complex families are one of the variants of a household that combines several married couples. For a number of reasons, such families enjoyed the support of the state, landlords and the peasant community for a long time. However, after the Great Reforms, complex families began to transform under the influence of socio-economic processes. The article assesses the prevalence of a complex family among the peasant population of the Russian Empire and its changes in the second half of the 19th century.

The article is devoted to the visual representation of the foreign policy goals and national interests of Russia on the eve and during the Russian-Turkish war of 1877–1878. The author analyzes the historical context of graphics works in Russian illustrated magazines of the 1870s. The article reveals the historical and cultural features of the formation of the concept of Russia’s liberation war in the Balkans by means of magazine graphics.

Secret Police Control over Regional Bureaucracy: the Practices of Kazan Province 1826–1861 s.

Article examines the powerful mechanism of self-regulation in the Russian Empire 1826–1860-ies. The object of study is the information potential materials gendarmerie correspondence. His analysis allowed us to trace part of the gendarmerie headquarters staff officers of the problem of the provincial bureaucracy.

The Ideas about Russian-turkish Rapprochement in the Views and Correspondence between I. Gasprinskiy and M. O. Menshikov

In the present paper we analyze the correspondence in 1908 between two prominent Russian publicists at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries Ismail Gasprinsky and Mikhail Menshikov in the context of intensification of the military and political crisis in Europe and the unresolved «Eastern question». Furthermore, we compare their views on the necessity to form a Russian-Turkish political union.

On the History of Domestic Acculturation of the Kazakhs and the Tatars in the Russian Empire of the 19th Century

Cohabitation of the Tatars and the Kazakhs in the Russian Empire brought to life a process of mutual acculturation. On the basis of testimonies of contemporaries, its manifestations in everyday life were reconstructed: changes in traditions related to home improvement, food intake, attitudes towards clothing items. It is concluded that the recorded changes are fundamental and allow us to speak on a concrete example of the gradual formation of a single social and cultural space of the Empire.

«To Pacify the Land Subject to Us»: the Views of I. A. Arsenyev on the Polish Question in the early 1860s in the Context of the National Policy of the Russian Empire

Based on a wide range of sources and archival materials the article analyzes the position of the Russian publisher and publicist I. A. Arsenyev on the Polish issue on the eve of the Polish Uprising of 1863–1864. Arsenyev, seconded to Warsaw in 1861 to compile correspondences, was a journalist of a new format. He not only objectively recorded the events that contributed to the escalation of the Russian-Polish conflict, but after analyzing them, outlined his vision of the problem in a special note, which aroused interest in the highest government circles.
