British Zenana missions of the XIX century and their projects for the liberation of Indian women

The article studies the goals, objectives, directions of work of the British zenana missions in the XIX th century based on the analysis of reports and articles in missionary magazines. It is shown that the creation of organizations was caused by the desire to help the disenfranchised women of India. Women missionaries sought to mitigate the social exclusion of Indian women, opposed cruel customs, slavery and humiliation of women, provided them with educational and medical services.

Public education in Tsaritsyn–Stalingrad in 1917–1929: Formation, difficulties, results N

The article analyzes the process of formation and development of public education in Tsaritsyn-Stalingrad from 1917(from the creation of the state commission for education in Soviet Russia) to the end of the 1920s (the results achieved in the eradication of illiteracy among the urban population, its vocational training). The activities of the city council and the section of public education are highlighted, difficulties in eliminating illiteracy, creating the material and technical base of educational institutions, and training qualified personnel are identified.

Some Traces of the Classical Tradition in the Culture of the Russian Provinces in the First Half of the Nineteenth Century: Ivan F. Sinaisky as a Hellenist in Saratov

The article gives the most important examples of classicism in the culture of Saratov province namely in architecture and education. The author focuses his attention on the activities of Ivan F. Sinaisky (1799–1870) as a teacher in Greek both in Gymnasium and in Orthodox Theological Seminary in Saratov. Works translated by I. Sinaisky from Greek, his manuals and dictionaries for those who learned Greek, as well as his articles on Greek and Greek authors are being considered in the context of Russian and European classicism.

An Education of Sense of Imperial Unity for BritishCanadian Youth in 70s of XIX Century (Based on Materials of Canadian Education Literature)

The article is devoted to the estimate complex ideas which were schooled to the British Canadians schoolchildren during lessons of history in 70s of XIX century and the research process formation of the conception for Canadians youth about population’s unity of mother country and colonies – imperial unity.

THE COURSE OF LIFE OF A HIGH OFFICIAL UNDER NIKOLAS: A. S. NOROV

One of the outstanding statemen and public figures of the Russia of the 40s – 60s of the 19th century was Avraam Sergeyevich Norov.He devoted his life to serving Russia which he loved sincerely and unselfishly. In 1812 A. S. Norov, a young boy of 17, defended his Motherland from the enemy. In 1854–1858 holding the post of the Minister of People`s Education he contributed with all his efforts to the development of education in the country. A. S. Norov made a significant contribution to the formation and development of native Oriental Studies.

The International cooperation in the sphere of culture within the framework of Shanghai Cooperation Organization

The main stages of formation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization are identified and dealt with. The role of world powers in the region is defined. The interaction of the SCO member states in cultural and humanitarian spheres is considered. Forms of cooperation of the Republic of Tajikistan and China in the field of culture are reflected. 

Regional Refraction of Modern Approaches to the study of the History of Public Education in Russia

The article shows how the works of the historian L. M. Artamonova from Samara reveals the impact changes in the field of public education and culture of provincial Russia in the XVIII-XXth centuries on the example of educational institutions in the cities and villages at Central Volga. «The look from the province» allows to see in a new light results of educational reforms in respect of the all-Russian modernization. Teachers played an important role in formation of the local intellectuals, not only in education, but also in scientific studying of the native land.

The Formation of the Cultural and Educational Environment During the Years of the Civil War in Saratov Gubernia (Based on the Materials of Balashov District)

Having come to power, the Bolsheviks along with socio-economic, political, state and legal transformations began cultural and educational changes. The paper attempts to consider the formation of Soviet culture and education in the Russian province using the example and materials of one of the uyezds of Saratov gubernia. The author comes to the conclusion that the undertakings of the uyezd authorities in this sphere of public life were not well thought out and organized.
